Elliptical machine, treadmill, and weight lifting machines

The elliptical machine was one of the first things I could do to get exercise - and for a long time the only thing I could do to get my heart rate up.  the fact that it's low impact helped me exercise on it for longer than I was able to walk on the treadmill

The treadmill was also great - it was very motivating to watch the amount of time I could walk get longer and longer.  The controlled environment of treadmill also let me focus in on my posture and using both legs equally

After lying in bed for so long, it wasn't just my leg and back muscles that were weak - my upper body needed help too.  I talked to the PT early on about doing upper extremity exercises and did a bunch of stuff with weights and weight lifting machines while lying on my back or stomach.

I have no relationship with the exercises and therapies I describe and created this site purely to inspire others to go take control of their own back care and to provide some ideas of treatments to discuss with your doctor.  If you find this website useful, please add a link to it from your website or blog.
